On August 13, we woke up to news that left us with mixed emotions. It was the passing of our dear father, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On one hand, it fills us with joy to know that he is living the promise of eternal life in the presence of Christ, a promise given to those of us who are children of God.
But on the other hand, we feel his absence; we miss his words of encouragement, his daily calls, and his constant expressions of love.
Pablo was, for us, family, and friends, an example of faith, always with his hope set on Christ.
His devotion to God and his passion for being helpful and serving in the advancement of God’s kingdom were constants in his life.
And his generosity in sharing the Lord’s love was a natural part of his lifestyle; it was normal to receive a smile and a word of encouragement from him.
These and many more memories will forever remain in our hearts, always lighting our path.
At the beginnings of Shoulder to Shoulder, Don Pablo was a key figure in the kitchen. He not only elevated the quality of the processes and the level of service, but he also left a mark on everyone with his warmth and approachability. His smile and hospitality made hundreds of people who passed through STS Mexico feel like part of the family.
Many will remember him as the STS Chef, one of those delightful surprises God places in the middle of a mission week: with his delicious food and personal attention, he showed us that serving is also an act of love.
Among his many expressions of care was his French bread, prepared with a very special recipe that became unforgettable—so much so that more than one person wanted to take some back to the United States.
Don Pablo left a lasting impact on our lives and on the lives of many who continue to be part of this mission today. We thank God for his life and for the legacy of service and love he leaves behind.
